“Genisis” is the first chapter of an ongoing project where the artist delves into the gendered misinformation she encountered while growing up in a predominantly male family and within India’s patriarchal society. Through personal experiences and recollecting childhood memories, the artist examines these misconceptions manifested in cultural norms, gender roles, societal expectations, and inadequate information surrounding female reproductive health. Using phototherapy and alternative photographic techniques, the artist channels the anger she feels stemming from these reflections and realizations. The project serves as a form of self-therapy, aimed at healing and addressing the generational baggage women bear due to misinformation, embarking on a journey of empowerment and renewal through this awakening.
